Here’s Why Happy Employees Matter to Your Business

Welcome to the new year! I hope it’s a great one for you, and I hope, through my posts here, to help make that happen. Naturally, my main concern is the spectrum of printing services we at Superior Business Solutions offer our customers. But if you visit this space regularly, you know that I cover a variety of tips, topics, and suggestions that help businesses function more efficiently. In fact, our company was founded on efficiency almost 100 years ago. Everyone at Superior works hard to continue my grandfather’s legacy. My blog is just one more extension of his work.

So let’s start the new year by looking at the factor with the biggest impact on your productivity: your employees. It’s time to take a fresh look at how you view employee benefits. If you still think of it as a tug-of-war with every “concession” somehow hindering your business or hurting your bottom line, you are well behind the curve.

Good for Them! (And You.)

Lately, I’ve come across many articles and survey findings that point to one simple truth, as expressed by Camille Preston, Ph.D. in a recent piece in Forbes.

“There is growing evidence that when one’s employees are happy, organizations thrive.”

The article cites research studies that support the following conclusions:

  • Happy employees are 20% more productive than unhappy ones.
  • With salespeople, that happiness generates 37% more sales
  • Over a seven-year period, Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” showed a 14% increase in stock prices, compared to only 6% for companies not on that list

What Can You Do to Create Happy Employees?

Ford’s 2019 Trend Report carries some interesting insights into what today’s employees are looking for. According to the report, benefits that contribute to work/life balance, especially, are a strong tool in recruiting and keeping skilled employees in highly paid positions. But they are also invaluable in decreasing stress and increasing the productivity and commitment of hourly and part-time employees.

Ford’s report helps identify several areas in which creative benefits can improve the lives of today’s employees and make them feel more engaged and committed to your company. I’ll share them with you in my next post with a few of my own.
